| ITRIA
VALLEY |
The
Itria Valley is an enormous karstic valley situated
in Apulia region, in the
South-East Italy.
It is the heart of the Murgia and one of the most famous
landscapes of Apulia, inter-nationally known as the
“Trulli Valley”.

What
is a trullo?
The
appearance of a trullo, a timeless rural building,
has always been associated with Apulia as one of the
most typical expressions of its rural soul. It is
represented at its best in the town of Alberobello,
which was lately included into Unesco’s world
heritage sites. The trullo architecture is based on
the joining of a conical shape to an underlying, usually
cubic structure; the covering of the building is formed
by the so called false dome.
The keystone is marked by the typical cuspidate element
usually adorned with a stone globe or a pinnacle of
various shape. The domes are often decorated with
whitewashed sacred and profane symbols, crosses, crescents
of signs of the zodiac. |

The
Itria Valley territory includes the
beautiful and white old towns of: Ceglie Messapica,
Cisternino, Locorotondo, Martina Franca and
Alberobello. |
